Hyderabad Chapter 2 : Differences between the Telanganas and the Andhras

Following are the differences in the way each region's people behave, their stereo-type characteristics and how they think.

  • If you stuff 20 Andhrites into a Maruti car, they'd still talk about property value and real estate. If you stuff 20 Hyderabadis into a Maruti car, they'd spread a carpet and start a "dawaat" right in there and invite all close-friends over.
  • An Andhrite can never learn to cook a Chicken-biryani and a Telanganite will never cook a Chicken-Pulao.
  • Soon after a Hyderabadi gets off a Scoda car they are known to pull-off a salaam. Well known, to touch their heart with their right hand after a handshake expressing absolute satisfaction in meeting that person.
  • The Andhras are avid cinema followers. On a train from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, Andhrites would talk only about Balakrishna's/Chiranjeevi's/Nagarjuna's/Venkatesh's upcoming film. Children are raised in a fanatic movie loving environment. Andhras pick their favorite movie star based on inclination towards a caste/community. They tend to die-hard for that one star and never change their favoritism.
  • Kaleidoscopic! - Andhrites are known for having a lot of facial expressions based on their fanatism towards Tollywood. Andhrites flap their tounges out as an expression for unbelievable!, nod their neck left-right sideways in "speed" as an expression for dis-agreement.
Teen-maar - The only time an out-pour of expressions occurs on Telanganites is when they dance in a baraath of a close friend's wedding.
  • A Telanganite is all about "Dostulu"(friends), right from when his life begins. Everyday, when the kid comes back from gulley cricket he would tell his parents about the way he treated his friends and how they treated him. Telanganites are known to pick friends regardless of race, caste, religion. The Muslim and Hindu Telanganites are known to invite each other for festivals such as Dassera and Ramzans.
  • Andhras love chappals. Given a choice between chappals and Nike sneakers. The Andhras would still pick chappals. The diaspora Andhra men during a cold winter are often found to slip their feet into chappals for a short walk to the grocery store.
  • An Andhrite raised in Hyderabad stays away from culture medley due to parents opposition. The settler's parents are conservative in their up-raising due to facts unknown about letting their kids mix-up. The resisting first generation Andhra-Hyderabadi tries to secretly maintain a gang of friends unbiased.
